TRAC'S TELE-TIPS UPDATE:TRAC's CHAIRMAN HONORED
Washington, DC -- Samuel A Simon, Chairman of the Board of TRAC, the Telecommunications Research and Action Center was honored on February 18th when he was awarded the Susan G. Hadden Pioneer in Telecommunication Access honor. The distinction was announced by William E. Kennard, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, at a reception hosted by the Alliance for Public Technology.
The award made in memory of Susan G. Hadden is given to individuals who have made significant contributions on behalf of consumer and public access to telecommunications. Mr. Simon was a founder of the Alliance for Public Technology, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting access to advanced telecommunications services by all people. During the ceremony, FCC Chairman commented on Mr. Simon's twenty-nine year dedication to the public interest and the critical role he has played in fostering the interests of consumers in telecommunications.
Mr. Simon was one of the first lawyers to work for Ralph Nader in 1970. From 1978 to 1986 Simon served as President of TRAC. In 1987 Simon help found the Alliance for Public Technology and served as its first president.
Other recipients of the Susan G. Hadden Award have included Mary Gardiner Jones, former FTC Commissioner, Brian Lamb, founder and President of C-SPAN, FCC Chairman William E. Kennard, Assistant Secretary of Commerce Larry Irving and the late Secretary of Commerce, Ronald Brown.
